Frequently Asked Questions
At Restorative Prosthetics & Orthotics, we treat the patient, not the claim. We’ve compiled these answers to help you understand your journey, your rights, and how we advocate for your mobility.
Getting Started
Do I need a referral for a prosthetic or orthotic evaluation?
While a prescription from a doctor is eventually required for us to provide a custom device, you do not need one to start the conversation. We offer a free first evaluation—including second opinions—at any of our clinics across Alabama, Georgia, and Tennessee, your home, or a care facility to discuss your goals and options.

Can a healthcare provider refer me directly?
Yes. We work closely with physicians, physical therapists, and hospital discharge planners. Providers can refer patients directly to any of our locations via phone, fax, or our online referral portal to ensure a seamless transition of care and clinical communication.
What should I expect at my first appointment?
Your first visit is a no-pressure, goal-based assessment where we focus on the lifestyle you want to reclaim. We use digital scanning and Motio gait analysis to create a clinical baseline and provide a clear financial breakdown before any treatment begins.

Can I try a device before I commit to it?
Yes! We believe in patient-controlled care, which is why we offer a “Test-Drive” approach. You can try multiple components and devices to ensure the fit and function meet your needs before we finalize the build.
Insurance & Cost
Will insurance cover my prosthetic or orthotic device?
We accept 90%+ of all insurance payers and have a dedicated team that handles pre-authorizations and fights all appeals at our expense. We advocate for your mobility to ensure you aren’t stuck with a surprise bill for a claim we supported.

Appointments & Process
How long does it take to get a prosthetic leg, arm, brace, or custom orthotic?
Because we utilize Custom Design & our Internal Fabrication Network, our standard turnaround is significantly faster than national chains. For urgent needs, our Amparo system can even provide a same-day prosthetic in as little as three hours.
How many visits are required to get my device?
Most patients require 3–5 visits, covering the initial assessment, digital scanning, fitting/testing, and final delivery. We also provide monthly monitoring after you receive your device to ensure it continues to fit perfectly as your body changes.
What if my device doesn't fit or feel right?
We provide a 90 Day Workmanship Guarantee on every custom device we create. If it isn’t right, we will adjust, remake, or even change the product entirely until it is perfect. We make it right, no matter what.
Devices & Care
How long do prosthetic and orthotic devices last?
Most custom devices are designed to last 3–5 years, though this depends on your activity level and physical changes. We help you with 3-year replacement planning to ensure you are never left without the mobility you need.
Will my device be comfortable?
Comfort is our clinical priority; a device you won’t wear is a device that failed. We use digital scanning, 3D printing, and terrain testing suites (with ramps, gravel, and grass) to ensure your device performs comfortably in the real world, not just a clinical room.
Can I stay active with a prosthetic or orthotic?
Absolutely. We specialize in everything from high-tech microprocessor knees for active adults to Myopro bionic arms and specialized pediatric braces. Our goal is to return you to the specific activities you love.

Pediatric Care
Do you treat children and infants?
Yes, we provide specialized pediatric care from birth through young adulthood. We understand that children require devices that account for rapid growth and high activity levels.
What pediatric conditions do you help with?
We specialize in treating club foot, scoliosis bracing, and gait assistance using AFOs and SMOs. We also offer the Agilic pediatric KAFO and Cea-Brace for children with complex mobility needs.
Do you provide cranial helmets for flat head syndrome / plagiocephaly?
Yes. We offer custom cranial remolding orthoses for infants with plagiocephaly or brachycephaly. Using safe, non-invasive 3D digital scanning, we create a precision-fit helmet designed to gently correct head shape during your baby’s natural growth.
