Not every child’s head shape looks precisely the same. But as kids grow, a misshapen head could be a sign of a condition that needs cranial helmet therapy to rectify. Deformational plagiocephaly refers to the occurrence of an asymmetrical head. If your child is diagnosed with scaphocephaly, brachycephaly or deformational plagiocephaly and is less than one year old, cranial remolding helmets may be prescribed to adjust the shape of your baby’s head.
However, cranial helmets must be prescribed by a licensed doctor. It is crucial to note that not all children are candidates for cranial helmets, and it is essential to discuss with your physician. Besides, children who have undergone the endoscopy process to rectify craniosynostosis will normally be prescribed cranial after surgery to further adjust the shape of their head.

At Restorative P&O, we utilize a state-of-the-art, 3D cranial scanner that will allow for more accurate and breathable cranial remolding helmets. We provide scans throughout all our locations in Middle Tennessee, and we can provide your therapists or physicians treatment progress of your baby’s head shape improvement. Your baby will wear the orthosis for a few months allowing the head to gently correct as it grows. Treatment has a high success rate and only takes between 3 to 6 months.

Assess
A thorough review of your child’s head shape is done during the initial visit at Restorative P&O. It is also during this stage that measurements are taken.

Craft
Our experienced pediatric orthotist will carefully assess your child’s needs and customize each cranial helmet to ensure a comfortable fit and optimal correction.

Adjust and Correct
Care givers or parents can return with the child after a few days for delivery of cranial helmets. During this visit, our experts spend time optimizing the fit of your helmet and offering care/wear instructions and address any concerns that arise.

Follow-Up Visits
Follow-up visits are essential to our cranial helmet treatment success. They help us to check on head growth and document progress. We modify the helmets to ensure that they fit properly on your baby’s head.
