Meet Our In-House Prosthetic Peer Counselor

Over the years, I’ve been able to help counsel nearly 1,200 patients through the amputation process because I know firsthand what amputee patients go through. My leg was amputated in 1986 after a car accident. Back then, I had the same questions, fears, and concerns as many of the patients who I work with do today.

After an amputation, a lot of patients wonder if they’ll be able to regain their independence and a sense of normalcy. Will they be able to go out and play with their grandkids? Will they be able to wear high heel shoes? Will they be able to ride a motorcycle or go fishing? I love being able to tell them “Yes, you can!” I am proud to be a walking example of that fact.

Eric is an Amputee Peer Counselor of 20+ years trained by the Amputee Coalition of America. He has co-founded three amputee Support Groups in Ft. Worth, TX, Orlando, FL, and Pittsburgh, PA. He started the Union Amputee/Celebrity Gold Tournament benefiting The Woodlands Foundation and the Diabetes Foundation in Pittsburgh. In his free time, Eric plays golf, enjoys working out, and hiking.

JTF provides children affected by limb loss with the prostheses they need throughout their growing years. Kids need to replace their prostheses every 18-24 months because they outgrow them just like clothes and shoes. We are committed to supporting our JTF Kids with the prostheses they need from the moment they join our family through the age of 18.

Today, almost 2 million Americans have experienced amputations or were born with limb difference. Another 28 million people in our country are at risk for amputation. The Amputee Coalition is the nation’s leading organization on limb loss, dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for amputees and their families, improving patient care and preventing limb loss. With the generous support of the public, we are helping amputees live well with limb loss, raising awareness about limb loss prevention and ensuring amputees have a voice in matters affecting their ability to live full, thriving lives.
